The Difference Between a Landing Page and A Default Page

Introduction

This tutorial explains the difference between default pages and landing pages and demonstrates how to easily toggle between the two on your Oh My Hi site.

Step-by-Step Tutorial: Switching Between Default and Landing Page Templates

Step 1: Understand the Page Types

  1. Default Page:
    • Includes a header with navigation, content blocks, and a footer.
    • Ideal for general website pages with multiple navigation options.
  2. Landing Page:
    • Contains only content blocks without a header or footer.
    • Designed for focused actions, such as RSVP pages, freebie opt-ins, or email captures.
    • Keeps user attention by removing distractions like navigation bars.

Step 2: Switching to a Default Page

  1. Identify the Template:
    • Go to your desired page in “Edit View.”
    • On the right-hand side under “Pages,” locate the “Template” setting.
    • If the template is set to “No Header or Footer,” it’s a landing page.
  2. Change to Default Template:
    • Click the dropdown next to “Template.”
    • Select “Default Template.”
  3. Preview the Page:
    • Save and launch the page to ensure the header and footer are restored.

Step 3: Switching to a Landing Page

  1. Identify the Page:
    • Open the page you want to convert to a landing page in “Edit View.”
  2. Set to Landing Page Template:
    • Under “Pages” on the right-hand side, find “Template.”
    • Click the dropdown and select “No Header or Footer.”
  3. Preview the Page:
    • Save and launch the page to confirm the header and footer are removed.

Step 4: Using Quick Edit to Toggle Templates

  1. Locate the Page in Pages View:
    • Navigate to your list of pages.
  2. Open Quick Edit:
    • Hover over the page title and click “Quick Edit.”
  3. Change the Template:
    • In the “Template” dropdown, toggle between “Default Template” and “No Header or Footer.”
    • Save your changes.

Step 5: When to Use Each Template

  1. Default Template:
    • Use for standard website pages with navigation.
    • Examples: Homepages, About pages, or Blog pages.
  2. Landing Page Template:
    • Use for pages focused on single actions.
    • Examples: RSVP forms, freebie opt-ins, or promotional campaigns.
