Connect a Domain Name

A custom domain name is required in order to send email on the Plus plan. A custom domain name is optional on the Starter plan.

Make sure to fill out the form at the end of this article to start the domain switch process.

Introduction

This tutorial will guide you through the process of getting a custom domain name (i.e. yoursupername.com) and getting it connected to your Oh My Hi site.

When your site is first created, it will have an Oh My Hi URL like: 123.ohmyhi.com. This is so your site is live and available for you to start working right away after purchasing.

If you are on the Starter plan and not using the CRM, you can continue to use the Oh My Hi URL if you’d like. If you’d like to use a custom domain name (like yourname.com) with your Oh My Hi site, we can help set that up for you. If you are on the Plus plan, a custom domain name is required in order to send email.

Domain names are relatively inexpensive and typically cost less than $20/year.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Purchase a domain name (if you haven’t already)
    • You’ll need to purchase a domain name from a domain registrar. Below is a list of domain registrars we recommend.
    • GoDaddy (most popular with our customers)
    • Namecheap
    • Cloudflare (this is the registrar we use for all of our domain names)
    • You can use other registrars if you prefer, but we recommend one of these 3 because it is easy to grant us access to update all the settings required to integrate it with your site.
  2. Provide Us Delegate Access
    • Next you’ll need to provide us delegate access to your account so we can manage the domain settings from our own account. Below are instructions to grant us delegate access for some of the most popular registrars. Unless specified otherwise below, when prompted for name and/or email please use Jeremy Launder and [email protected].
    • GoDaddy
      • Grant us access to Domains only and make sure to grant us access to the domain you want to use with Oh My Hi.
    • Namecheap
      • Grant us all permissions under Advanced DNS
    • Cloudflare
      • Add us as an Account Member with Domain Administrator role.
    • Squarespace
      • Add us as a Domain Manager
    • Bluehost
      • Add us as a Tech
    • Dreamhost
    • If you are using a different registrar not listed above search the help articles for “delegate access” or “developer access” to find instructions, or send us a message and we’d be happy to help!
  3. Fill out the form below to start the process of getting your domain name switched over.

Additional Info

If you would prefer to update the domain DNS settings yourself that’s great! There are just a few back-and-forth steps we need to take so the process is a little longer. Send us a message and we’ll provide the records that need to be added and/or changed.

In general, the whole process usually takes less than 48 hours and there will be no downtime of your Oh My Hi site throughout the process.
