Introduction
This tutorial teaches how to enhance your webpage by adding interactive buttons that open default SMS and email apps.
Step-by-Step Tutorial: Adding SMS and Email Links to Buttons
Step 1: Add an SMS Link to the Button
- Select the Button or Text you want to link:
- Click on the button or highlight the text that you want to link
- Open the Link Settings:
- Use the navigation bar at the top of the page to click the “Link” icon.
- Enter the SMS Link:
- Type
sms:
followed by the phone number without spaces or hyphens (e.g.,sms:1234567890
).
- Type
- Save the Link:
- Click the arrow or “Enter” key to submit the link.
Step 2: Add an Email Link to the Button or Text
- Select the Email Button or Text you want linked:
- Click on the button or highlight the text that you want to link
- Open the Link Settings:
- Click the “Link” icon in the navigation bar.
- Enter the Email Link:
- Type
mailto:
followed by the email address (e.g.,mailto:[email protected]
).
- Type
- Save the Link:
- Click the arrow or “Enter” key to submit the link.
Step 3: Test Your Links
- SMS Link:
- Click the “Text Me” button. It should open the default SMS app with the recipient’s phone number pre-filled.
- Email Link:
- Click the “Email Me” button. It should open the default email app with the recipient’s email address pre-filled.
- Note: On a desktop, this requires a default email app to be set up. It works seamlessly on mobile devices.
Tips:
- Use for Mobile Devices: SMS links are most effective on phones where a messaging app is installed.
